From Applegarth Villa it's a genuinely pleasant walk rather than a trek — the sort of place a couple can wander without an agenda and still feel they've done something with the morning.
The lake is a comfortable walk or a short taxi away, and Bowness Bay rewards the trip: cruises, a promenade, and — timed for early evening — some of the loveliest light on the water you'll find anywhere on Windermere. Without a car: effortless — station, village and tour departures are all a short walk, and taxis cover the lake easily.
If you drive to the villages: Windermere and Bowness parking fills by mid-morning in season; Broad Street, Braithwaite Fold and Glebe Road are the sensible choices.
Timing: book your tour day with the room — seven seats, and summer dates go two to three weeks out.
A note on pets: Applegarth Villa doesn't accommodate pets, so this guide assumes a dog-free stay; well-behaved dogs remain welcome on our private tours generally, for guests staying elsewhere.
