"I have been to the Lake District many times and considered myself reasonably well-informed about Beatrix Potter. This tour showed me how little I actually knew. The expert storyteller's knowledge was extraordinary — the connection between her scientific background and her illustration work, the conservation legacy, what Wray Castle meant, why she married Heelis. The landscape I had been looking at for twenty years suddenly made complete sense. One of the finest guided experiences I have ever had."
"We visited Dora's Field in April when the daffodils were in full bloom. Our guide explained the story of why Wordsworth planted them — and I completely lost my composure. I have taught English Literature for thirty years. I knew the poem. I did not know this. A moment I will not forget."
"We came with our two children aged 8 and 10. Both were completely engaged from start to finish. Hill Top was magical — the expert storyteller pointed out every room and feature from the books and both children recognised them instantly. Near Sawrey village walk was a highlight. Tarn Hows took their breath away. We were back by 1pm and spent the afternoon on the lake. Perfect family day."
"The only tour I have ever found that gets you from the Lake District to Haworth in a single day. The drive across the Pennines was beautiful. The expert storyteller's knowledge of the Brontës was exceptional — I am a lifelong fan and she told me things I had not known. The moors in October, with the low light and the wind — exactly as the novels describe. Worth every penny."
"Having Sandra drive while Gillian guides is inspired. The commentary never stops — no waiting for a safe moment, no pausing at junctions. Gillian talked throughout the entire journey, reading from the poems in the exact places they were written. The Grot at Rydal Hall was completely unknown to me and utterly extraordinary. I have recommended this tour to everyone I know."
"The afternoon tour ending with the boat on Windermere was a perfect touch. We spent the afternoon in Beatrix Potter's countryside and then cruised back down the lake she loved. The expert storyteller was with us until we boarded, pointing out features on the shore as we left. A completely lovely afternoon and an ending I would not have thought of myself."
"I travelled alone and was slightly apprehensive. Within ten minutes I felt entirely comfortable. The expert storyteller's knowledge of the geology and natural history of the fells was astonishing — I kept thinking I knew what I was looking at and discovering I had barely scratched the surface. Maximum seven guests makes this feel like a private tour. Exceptional value."
"As someone who has spent years studying Victorian literature, I was curious whether a guided tour could tell me something new. It absolutely could. The archival detail Gillian brought — specific documents, specific dates, connections I had not made — was remarkable. This is not a tour for people who want a pleasant day out. It is a tour for people who want to understand."
