SOURCE is Gilpin's flagship dining room and holds one Michelin star. The hotel itself holds two Michelin Keys, which puts it in rare company — most of the UK's Two- and Three-Key hotels are in London, and only a handful sit in the countryside. The two distinctions are decided separately by Michelin, so the Key is not a consequence of the star or the other way round.
There is a second restaurant on the estate, Gilpin Spice, doing pan-Asian sharing plates in a considerably more relaxed register. Worth knowing if you are staying several nights and do not want two tasting menus running back to back.
Short, but not zero. Gilpin sits at Crook, off the road between Bowness and Kendal, about ten minutes from Windermere. What surprises people is that the Lake House — the six-room property with its own private lake — is a separate house a short drive from the main hotel.

All of it. Ten minutes from Windermere means a full day out and an evening table are entirely compatible — our full-day tours return at six, which leaves proper time to get back and change rather than a scramble.

If you are staying at Gilpin, this is a non-question — you walk to dinner. If you are coming in for the table, book a return taxi from Windermere or Bowness in advance; Crook is rural enough that hailing one is not an option.

Yes — the hotel holds two Michelin Keys and its restaurant SOURCE holds one Michelin Star. Michelin decides Keys and Stars independently of one another, so a hotel can hold one without the other.
They are two separate properties under one name, a short drive apart. The Lake House is smaller, more secluded and has its own lake. If you are booking a private tour, tell us which one you are staying in so we collect from the right door.
