Visiting Holker Hall — A Practical Guide

Holker Hall sits on the Cartmel Peninsula, at the southern edge of the Lake District National Park, in gentler and considerably milder country than the central fells.

Getting there

The estate is close to the villages of Holker and Cark, on the south side of the Lakes, reached most easily by road. It sits within easy reach of Grange-over-Sands and Cartmel village.

What's on site

Alongside the hall and its gardens, the estate includes the Lakeland Motor Museum, a café, gift shop and farm shop, and a children's playground — enough to make it a comfortable half or full day out rather than a quick stop. Check Holker's own website for current opening days and admission, as these vary seasonally and the house itself typically closes over winter while the gardens remain open on a reduced schedule.

A note from the office
Holker pairs naturally with Cartmel village — home of the original sticky toffee pudding and a handsome medieval priory — for a longer, unhurried day on the peninsula rather than a single-site visit.

Combining it with a wider day

For guests staying in the southern Lakes, Holker is easily combined with Cartmel and the wider peninsula for a full day that mixes gardens, history and food without ever feeling rushed.

Holker Hall can be included in a bespoke history and gardens tour.
