The 10 Lakes Full-day Tour
The biggest day we run — ten lakes, the high passes and an Ullswater cruise — with a starred dinner five minutes from the drop-off. The best value combination in the county.
See dates & bookIf you want one starred dinner and one properly full day out, and you do not want the two fighting each other, this is the booking to make. Lake Road Kitchen is dinner-only, in the middle of Ambleside, minutes from where our tours drop off. There is no drive to plan and nothing to sacrifice.
Quick Facts
A small, intimate room where the cooking runs on tasting menus that change often — Cumbrian produce with Nordic and Japanese influences threaded through it, and sheepskins on the chairs. Ambleside is a town of a few thousand people with two Michelin stars in it, which says something about this county that the fell-walking reputation rather buries.
Dinner only, so there is no lunch option to plan around — which simplifies the day rather than complicating it.
None. That is the whole appeal. From the Ambleside library drop-off it is a few minutes on foot. From Windermere or Bowness, about fifteen minutes by road with the 555 bus covering the same route.
Ambleside's car parks fill early and empty slowly. If you are driving in, come before you need to.
Everything we run. Full-day tours return at six, afternoon tours at six, morning tours at one. A dinner-only restaurant five minutes from the drop-off point means the day genuinely does not have to be compromised — which, having read the other pages in this collection, you will appreciate is not the norm.
If you are travelling in a group and want the day shaped precisely, a private tour collects and returns door-to-door within Ambleside as one of our seven core towns.
Walk, if you are staying in town. From Windermere or Bowness a pre-booked taxi is easy on this corridor. This is about as low-friction as a starred dinner in Cumbria gets.

No — it is dinner only, which in practice makes it easier to plan a full day around.

Any of them, which is unusual. Our full-day tours return to Ambleside at 6pm, leaving time to change before an evening table a few minutes away.
