Her happiest hunting ground is the long stretch from the late medieval to the Victorians: the families who built the Lake District's great houses, the poets and novelists who made it famous, and the letters and ledgers where the real stories hide. She's usually the one leading our Wordsworth and Brontë days — the drive across the moors to Haworth is a story in itself the way she tells it — though like all our guides she ranges far beyond her favourites, and no two of her days are the same.
